851 888 926 Ducati Corse carbon seat unit race corsa

Things have been a little hectic with a relocation at the beginning of the month, however within a fortnight production of parts resumed. Currently we are working on this race seat unit, moulds are being prepared so you can expect availability within the next couple of months.

These will be available in carbon with a strengthening core and kevlar edge trim as originally supplied by Ducati for their race bikes from 1992 onwards.

888 race style velocity stacks for 916 throttles

We have just started producing these velocity stacks / air trumpetsin carbon specifically to be fitted on 916  dual injection throttle bodies.

These are the same shape as the later corse units but made with a deeper flange height and a thicker wall size, so that these can be used with the 916 and 996 dual injector throttle bodies. The important dimensions for this item are 50mm diameter internally and 57mm diameter externally.

We have been working on a few Ducati race parts which will be ready in a few more weeks once all the moulds have been made.

One of these parts being worked on are the early 851/888 air conveyors / runners displayed here. They are not the earliest of types, however they differ slightly from the 1991, 1992 and 1993 items that I have seen previously in the way that they have been constructed and put together. This original set are very light and thin, using only one layer of carbon with a further layer of E-fibre backing, thus the passage of time has not been favourable to them with plenty of cracks and splits in evidence.

Perhaps this is why later items are slightly thicker which should make the item far sturdier and less prone to damage through use. Once all the splits have been repaired we shall make moulds from the item and be able to produce reproduction parts, made to the original specification or thicker if that is what you wish to have.

Here is the first of the 1994 888 race carbon tank upper shells which will be used to make the composite moulds for tank manufacture.

Oronero have been asked to make some 851 and 888 parts in carbon/kevlar cloth, these items are more resistant to abrasion and are of great benefit when used as the outer layer on body fairings.

When used on fairings they reduce the chances of the fairing being ground away should the machine slide down the road or track on its side, thus reducing more damage behind the fairings. Late genuine Ducati 888 race fairings incorporated a ‘Kevlar’ outer skin, so what oronero will be manufacturing is not ‘ground breaking’ as the factory have already trodden that ground. If you still want 100% carbon fairings then oronero will be able to produce these for you also.

There were some more of the parts but I had to get them in the post before I had a chance to take this photograph. Displayed are rear corse style lower huggers, one of which is made with carbon/kevlar material. Also in the image are a corse style rear seat undertray, the first batch of corse carbon tank letterbox covers, air velocity stacks/trumpets which will be suitable for fitting to late 888 injector manifolds and finally another set of 888 corse upper and lower headstock covers.

Available shortly for sale, as later developed for the early 851/888 Corse racers. In an effort to block of the gap between the front of the early carbon  tanks and the headstock sealing off the airbox from large foreign objects, this cover was developed and used on some of the later racers.

I am sure that many of you are aware that Claudio Castiglioni passed away at the age of 64 on  the 10th August 2011.

He joined his father’s metalwork company CAGIVA, which later diversified interests and went on to purchase many an iconic Italian motorcycle company, helping to create a worldwide interest for brands such as Ducati and MV Agusta again. Cagiva later went on to sell Ducati to Texas Pacific Group but the security and longevity of the brand had by then begun.

Claudio was recognised as being responsible for the iconic Ducati 916 and the MV Agusta F4, condolences to his family and friends.
